Donald 2000 is proud to announce the induction of its very first Life Member – the one and only John McConville.
If you’ve ever asked John how he’s doing, you already know his answer: “GREAT!” And that’s exactly what he is – great in every sense of the word. For decades, John has dedicated himself to helping our town and its people, always ready to roll up his sleeves and get things done.
John has been at the helm of Donald 2000 since its inception in the 1990s. While he may have missed a meeting or two over the years, his trademark “let’s just do it” attitude has never wavered. Time and again, he has taken the lead to make incredible things happen for Donald.
Here’s just a small sample of the many projects John has been instrumental in bringing to life:
- Installing bollard lighting along Byrne Street pathways (twice!).
- Purchasing the community bus.
- Organising Guy Fawkes nights.
- Leading Donald’s 150th celebrations.
- Building the Camp Street seat and shelter.
- Overseeing construction of the childcare centre, scout hall, swing bridge, barbecue shelter, and the iconic Apex Park windmill with lights.
- Constructing the footbridge to Scilley’s Island.
- Facilitating critical water projects with GWM for supply and environmental flow.
- Developing Penfold Place.
- Establishing the off-road racing event and track.
- Extending the Men’s Shed building.
- Updating the Train Park and relocating the Taggerty dining car.
- Upgrading the airport.
- Developing the Federation Walking Track.
- Restoring and securing the lease for the railway station building and area.
- Organising the unforgettable Baby Boomers festivals.
And that’s not all – while contributing to our community, John also managed to:
- Raise four wonderful sons.
- Maintain a strong and loving marriage.
- Run his steel business and later a school bus route.
- Build a holiday home in Marengo.
Oh, and he’s done all this with just one kidney!
John, you are truly one of a kind. Your contributions to Donald are immeasurable, and your dedication, kindness, and friendship are deeply appreciated.
Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition from all of the Donald 2000 Committee and the community, and thank you for everything you’ve done. You’re not just a great man; you’re an extraordinary one.
