Donald Deb Set Dazzles

Donald Memorial Hall was at capacity on Friday, June 28, as what seemed to be the whole town and district gathered to witness the return of the Debutante Ball.

Sixteen debutantes, plus their partners filled the stage, enhanced by the addition Pippa Pearse and Renner Tait in the traditional roles of flower girl and page boy, ahead of the official party consisting of, Buloke Shire Mayor, Cr Alan Getley, Jade Benham, MP, Member for Mildura, Maree Cullen and Danny Forrest who were invited by the debutantes as their “Special” guests to welcome them into the community.

The Debutantes had selected the theme for the evening, which was centred around the “Great Gatsby,” and as the curtains opened to reveal the stage in all its splendour, the work of a whole community was on display for those lucky enough to attend.

The debutantes were fittingly welcomed by MC John McConville and described in all their youthful splendour by Lisa Woods, who is fast developing a reputation in Donald as the “must have” addition to any social or business event.

Supper was provided by Harvest Café and was devoured in a blink by the crowd who stayed on and enjoyed the toe tapping tunes belted out by Leo Tellefson and Band.

Events such as this don’t come without a lot of hard work by many in the community, and MC John McConville spent considerable time thanking all concerned (if he missed any, he apologises)

After a suitable time, Donald 2000 will sit down and decide if the event is a yearly affair or not.

To the youth in Donald who requested the Deb Ball, here is a very practical example of what can be achieved when all in the community work together to put on a night to remember.

Donald 2000 acknowledges the efforts of our community,  and appreciates the trust that our young people have given us to ensure that their thoughts and needs are woven into the fabric of Donald.
