Morning Swimming and Aqua Exercise

The pools across Buloke Shire have become a hub of activity this summer, with community members taking full advantage of morning lap swimming and engaging aqua exercise classes.

Across Buloke, the pools have been open to the public on various mornings, that are best suited to each community between 6 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. for free morning lap swimming.

Lap swimmers have enjoyed the flexibility of being able to go when it suits them, and as more people are getting back into the routine of school and work, the numbers have been steadily increasing.

Neighbourhood Houses in Charlton, Wycheproof, and Birchip have also been making the most of the flexible opening hours, ensuring these vital community spaces are being well utilised by offering structured aquatic fitness programs led by dedicated and professional instructors Nicola Kirk, Brenda and Maddie Doran, and Averyl Loft.

Their enthusiasm and expertise have encouraged many locals to embrace water-based fitness, which is known for being gentler on the body compared to land-based exercises.

Lifeguards
Neighbourhood House coordinators and community members are grateful to the Buloke Shire’s Gaynor Atkin, Lachlan Start, and all the hardworking lifeguards who have made these initiatives possible.

Their efforts in ensuring the pools remain open at times that accommodate residents’ needs have contributed to the increased participation and enjoyment of aquatic activities in Buloke.

Social Connection
Beyond structured classes, the pools are also a place of social connection, where friends and family can come together to enjoy the water and each other’s company.

The significance of these pools extends beyond recreation, as they are also being well utilised by local schools for physical education classes and school swimming sports.

With the continued support of the community and the flexibility provided by the Buloke Shire, the pools remain an essential part of rural life, promoting both physical well-being and social connection in these small but vibrant communities.
