COVID-19 has thrown up many challenges, and one of the more memorable ways to bring people together for a very special occasion saw the Buloke Shire conduct citizenship ceremonies for four new Australians via Webex on Wednesday evening, prior to its monthly meeting.
It was the first time the Shire has had to resort to this format, but it certainly didn’t detract from the significance of the occasion for those involved.
With Mayor Cr. Daryl Warren sitting in front of his home computer, and other councillors and officials doing likewise from their homes, they were joined by the candidates, who all took the Affirmation of Australian Citizenship.
Among Australia’s newest citizens are Mr Sujith Anto, Mrs Nuttheera White and Mrs Kath Campbell.
Nuttheera White was born in Ban Tor, a small village in the north of Thailand, in Lampang Province.
She studied at the University in Bangkok and worked in Property Development for 11 years, prior to her company asking her to come to Australia in 2013.
Nuttheera met Max White and moved to Wycheproof in 2015 and later married. She loves the countryside called the Mallee, which she now calls home.
Katharine Campbell grew up in a small town on a dairy farm in Canada with her mum, two sisters and her step Dad.
After completing her diploma in Travel and Tourism, Kath travelled to Australia in 1996, to live and work on the Campbell property, as part of a Farm Exchange program.
It was there she met her future husband, Adam, and they married in 2001.
The couple live on the family farm at Corack, and have three children, Bronte, Gabby and Chase.
Kath is currently employed at Donald’s Goodwin Village, and has been actively involved in many community organisations and events since her arrival.
Most recently, Kath was awarded life membership of the Donald Netball Club, in recognition of her outstanding contribution.
Congratulating the shire’s new Australian citizens, Cr. Warren wished them all the best in their future endeavours, as residents of the Buloke Shire.
