Easter Travellers Take a Break

For years past, Donald’s historic Police Camp has been a brief, but interesting, “Driver Reviver” stopping point for people crossing Buloke Shire at Easter on their way to and from places near and far.
The most recent attraction of the Camp has been largely due to the work of Donald Lions Club members – and, in particular, Lion Norm Hollis – in reviving interest in the role originally played by the police presence at the entrance to the town, alongside the Sunraysia Highway, and close to the Richardson River.
As in previous years, a roster of Lions Club members manned the Camp all day on both Easter Saturday and Monday, last weekend, welcoming visitors, and inviting them to enjoy a warm drink and biscuits.
Among those taking the opportunity to stretch their legs on Monday morning were members of the Gillingham clan, a Kerang family heading for Beachport, near Robe, in South Australia. That journey would entail about an hour from Kerang to Donald, and another four hours to their holiday destination.
