It was a hot summer’s day; most of the cricketers were into their sixties, but they still provided a keen competitive and entertaining match between 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Jeffcott oval in Donald.
The Vic Country Veterans were drawn from Bendigo, Echuca, Kerang, Rochester, Donald, St. Arnaud, Horsham and Mildura.
As their name would suggest, the Hamilton Veterans were from the Hamilton district.
Batting first, and with a restricted number of overs per player, Vic Country was all out for 144, top scorers being Russell Bott 31 retired not out, Shane Noonan 23, David Letts 21 retired not out, Barry Hopper 21, and Greg Bailey 19.
Wicket-takers for Hamilton were Geoff Barker 3/14, Gavin Keaney 2/11, Craig Marrow 1/21.
In reply, Hamilton produced an impressive winning line-up, with six players reaching double figures in a total of 4/150. Those retiring not out were Darren Groves 33, Craig Marrow 32, Neil Blizzard 25, Geoff Barker 15, and Chris Hutchins 10. Dave Spencer also scored 10.
Vic Country wicket-takers were John Thomas 1/25, Trevor Sing 1/23, David Letts 1/22, and David Wilson 1/7.
Officiating at Sunday’s game was Wimmera Mallee Association umpire Daryl Broughton.
