One Week to Go!

[From the Show Committee]
One week to go until it’s the 2024 Donald Show. We hope everyone is just as excited as we are.

Months of planning goes into organising the show, it’s not something that just comes together. It’s endless emails, phone conversations and paperwork all put together by volunteers who don’t get paid for what they do – they simply do it out of the kindness of their heart. So if you see a show volunteer during show week, or on show day, give them a big thank you, because if it wasn’t for them, there would be no Donald Show.

The show office is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the showgrounds, where you can purchase your 2-day passes, gather all information about entering exhibits, book disabled parking, purchase raffle tickets – anything show related, the volunteers have you covered. Important note, photography entries are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, as judging take place on Thursday.

Basketball
3-on-3 Basketball will be back on Friday evening with a little twist this year, adding a business competition. So the key question is, which business has the winning basketball team in town? Competition starts 6 p.m. Friday, October 11 in the stadium.

Show Star
Donald Show Star is a new competition this year that replaces Miss Showgirl/boy which hasn’t been run at the Donald Show for several years. The competition is all about having fun at the show, enjoyment of the day and smiling faces. Judging will take place on the main stage near the poultry pavilion 2 p.m. Saturday.

Colouring Competition
To finish off the school holidays, if the kids haven’t already got their hands on

the Bendigo Bank colouring competition pictures, you can collect from the Bendigo Bank in Woods Street during opening hours, or download from the Show website www.donaldshow.com.au

Sponsor
We thank major sponsor Donald & District Community Bank for its support of this year’s show, not only sponsoring the colouring competition but also the Kidz Zone in the stadium on Saturday. Thanks Bendigo Bank – the better big bank.

Congratulations Rhonda
It’s always an achievement to win a prize at the Donald Show, when that entry wins at the Wimmera Group Final and then gets to go on and compete at the state final, that is an amazing achievement. This year that’s the achievement of Donald Show Pavilion volunteer Rhonda Laird. At the 2023 Donald Show, Rhonda entered the VAS Ltd Knitting Competition, winning at local level. Rhonda’s amazing blanket competed against all other Wimmera exhibitors last year, where she was announced as the winner.

This enabled her entry to compete at the 2024 Royal Melbourne Show. Judging took place and winners were announced on Thursday, September 26. The winner was Anne Wakefield representing the Central & South Gippsland Group from the Korumburra Show.

The Show Society and Donald Community congratulate Rhonda on this great achievement and look forward to seeing her entries at the 2024 Donald Show.
