Donald’s IGA wall is receiving some special attention this week, with Melbourne artist Heesco dedicating his time and talents to a new mural, featuring Donald’s historical Chinese market gardener, Georgie Ah Ling.
Heesco commenced work on Tuesday, November 26, and will be staying in Donald until the completion of the mural, which is hoped to be next week. This is not the first art work of his in the district, with one of his murals featured in Birchip, depicting the farm, the lamb and the Holden ute.
The new mural in Donald is quite extensive, stretching the length of the IGA car park and depicting the famous market gardener in various poses, including his horse and cart, watering cans, his shack and an image of Georgie in a relaxed pose, smoking a pipe perhaps at the finish of one of his long days of gardening and delivering his produce to the town.
The residents of Donald are greatly anticipating the finished product and have Donald 2000 to thank for the initiative, specifically Yvonne Brown, who has been an incredible advocate for the project.
More detailed information on this project will be featured in future editions of the “Buloke Times”. Stay tuned for more to come!
