As the holiday season begins, Buloke Shire’s Mayor Alan Getley, encourages everyone to embrace the spirit of kindness and giving, reflecting on the joy of community connection.
“Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This is a time to celebrate generosity, compassion, and the strength of our local connections,” said the Mayor.
“Let’s share the festive cheer and continue supporting one another.”
The newly elected Buloke Shire Council’s first Ordinary Meeting addressed key areas to strengthen governance, community well-being, and policy alignment.
It also awarded over $7,000 to local community groups under the Council’s Community Grants Program for projects ranging from repainting engine J524 in Donald Train Park to an event for senior high school students to promote the best ways to live healthy lives.
Updates to the Expenses Policy now include improved approval processes for memberships, professional development, and travel, alongside enhanced administrative support for Councillors.
Significant updates were also made to the Governance Rules and Election Period Policy, introducing a dedicated “Governance” section to the Order of Business and streamlining public participation through written questions submitted two days before meetings.
Council reaffirmed its commitment to child safety by adopting the Child Safe Standards Policy, requiring adherence to strict standards to prevent harm and align with legislative requirements.
Council welcomed Stephen Gardner as the new Independent Member of the Audit and Risk Committee, highlighting its ongoing focus on financial reporting, risk management, and disaster recovery improvements.
The next Council meeting will be held in the Wycheproof Supper Room on Wednesday, February 19, at 7:00 p.m..
